We can thank our Afternoon Teas to Anna, the Dutches of Bedford. During the mid 1800’s meals were served twice a day; mid morning and around 8 or 9 in the evening. The Dutches found that around 4 in the afternoon she was needing a bit of sustenance to make it through the day. She began having tea with bits of bread to tide her over. In time she began inviting her friends over during her tea time. Dainty sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, cakes and delicious pastries were added. For good reason the Afternoon Teas became popular and by the latter part of the 19th century had become part of the daily Victorian culture.
Here at The Treasure Trove our “Afternoon Teas” will be served a bit earlier! We will provide a variety of tea sandwiches and desserts with the tea of the day.
